About this deal

Babar wins the war by having the elephants paint monster faces on their backsides, which cause the frightened rhinoceroses to run away. Much later, in Babar and the Adventures of Badou, Pom grows to become the father of Prince Babar II (known as Badou). Hatchibombotar cleans the streets, Olur repairs the automobiles, and, when they are all tired, Doulamor plays his cello to entertain them.

First published in the 1930s, this charming French classic tells the story of what happens to baby elephant Babar as he grows up. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed.

To mark Folio’s 75th anniversary, Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story is published as a magical new edition, beautifully illustrated by award-winning artist Marie-Alice Harel and bursting with exquisite design details.

Stories are as follows: The Story of Babar; The Travels of Babar; Babarr the King; Babar's Birthday Surprise; Babar's Mystery; and Babar and the Wully-Wully. Tested by difficult trials – from snakes to fire to runaway prams – he always comes out on top, with the help of patience, determination and, on one memorable occasion, a flight of winged elephants.

Babar's adventure is somewhat cute, but it's just really hard to overlook death, not once, but twice. All 78 episodes of the TV series are broadcast in 30 languages in over 150 countries, making Babar one of the largest distributed animation shows in history.

Pictorial boards with light green cloth spine, minor shelf wear and slight darkening at board edges, previous owner's name on endpaper. Then we have Babar having a grand old time with a wealthy older woman who teaches him how to dress like a gentleman, read, and eat with a knife and fork. I never thought a children's book about an elephant would leave me with more questions than answers, but it's 2021.

Second, Babar has no experience that would make him a good king other than having lived in a "civilized" city. As an elephant who takes on the role of the bourgeois patriarch (and monarch), Babar reveals that role’s touching absurdity.
