About this deal

The Cottage garden spent the first 20 years of its existence as a dedicated vegetable garden, conveniently near the kitchen and supplying the family with all our fresh produce. Monty Don’s Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow, is well known to garden enthusiasts around the UK as the setting of BBC’s Gardener’s World, and its yearly cycles are well documented on the broadcaster’s social media feeds. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

There is a a real sense of the garden coming magnificently into being but still rich with the promise of more to come.

But when it is wet for weeks and we do not see the sun at all for days on end then it is miserable and gardening dribbles to a soggy halt. He and his wife, Sarah, have been working on the garden for more than thirty years, having bought the house in 1991 when there was little in the garden but rubble. I have grown vegetables since I was a small child and growing our own vegetables, herbs and fruit has always been an essential ingredient in the lives of Sarah and I. I’ve not so far had the opportunity to go through the book, but from the quick look through it, I’m sure I’m going to enjoy it and learn lots.

Although Monty gardens 3000 miles away from me, I can take a lot of his advise and wisdom and use it in my own gardening efforts. The Complete Gardener shows gardeners how to create a self-sustainable, environmentally friendly garden for the 21st century. A simple pavilion is at the far end that is shaded from the sun but looks out over the whole garden and down through the Orchard beds. Monty Don invites you into Longmeadow, a place that has become synonymous with Gardener's World, to show how he creates and tends his own garden, and how you can bring some of that same magic to our own. A greenhouse had fallen down after 20 odd years in one part of the garden so when we cleared it away and found we had a new and empty part of the garden I decided to make my own Paradise Garden based upon the influences I had seen across the Islamic world.

this is when the falling light levels coupled with heat make the rich colours like plum, caramel, purple and ruby red glow richly. He'll talk through the essential techniques and more complex processes, accompanied by easy-to-follow, step-by-step photography.
