About this deal

While I was aware of the series back when it used to be programmed in the evening, my strongest associations are of watching it in the afternoon. It's nice that Parkinson does appear more engaged with the game than Aspel who seemed to just watch with amused detachment, but he's now giving far too much assistance to the point that the teams barely have to work to put things together.

Along similar lines, a member of the public taking part was able to do Ask Aspel by pointing at the chairman, though nobody could remember the name of his other show at first. Well, with the flying humpty dumpty, that brings the score to sixteen to the girls, fourteen to the fellas, a nice close match. I can't help imagine her breathlessly racing in at the last minute, her appearance tightly sandwiched between filming the latest episodes of Three Of A Kind and A Kick Up The Eighties. I've just watched the immortal episode in which Roy Kinnear's I Can't See My Little Willy was followed immediately by Barbara Windsor's Kisses On The Bottom. Richard O'Brien look-a-like Tim Clark (also of sports show Under the Moon fame) had to change his name of Tim Burton because so many people confused him with the American film director of the same name.Once one begins to dive into this massive set compiled by Network, known for their releases of the similar situated Indoor League, the reasons for the release become clearer. Although Una was captain of the girls' team at that time, Liza was a guest on that previous episode (did this ever happen in reverse, I wonder? The shows on this set feature a galaxy of celebrities, comedians and actors, including: Kenneth Williams, Diana Dors, Richard O'Sullivan, Barbara Windsor, Robin Askwith, David Jason, Yootha Joyce, Mollie Sugden, Paula Wilcox, Spike Milligan, Russ Abbot, Warren Mitchell, Kenny Everett, June Whitfield, .

I had my doubts I'd find it as enjoyable as the prime time version, but it's certainly not without its charms (helped by the fact that this is the era I most clearly remember watching). All episodes I’ve watched so far recently have been from the Michael Aspel/Una Stubbs/Lionel Blair era, with the earliest series utilising a re-recording of Alan Hawkshaw’s Chicken Man as its theme (the library piece is best known as the theme from Grange Hill). Una Stubbs and Lionel Blair captain two teams of celebrities in this light-hearted battle of the sexes! Many episodes are available online and I've fallen into the habit of watching an episode while nibbling my lunch. No waiver of any of the provisions of this or any Agreement shall be effective unless it is expressly stated to be such and signed by both Parties. They're all little changes, but ones that make it less challenging to perform and consequently less fun to watch. There are even stars who I never expected to see, including Laugh-In’s Judy Carne, Derek Griffiths, Peter Butterworth, Jimmy Young, Roy Kinnear, Kenny Lynch, and Liz Fraser. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Seated on the other side of Liza was Jill Gascoine, best known at the time for The Onedin Line ( The Gentle Touch would begin the following year, and it’s incredible the difference a hairstyle makes.

This version of the format feels like they tried to find a way to include the audience, but it doesn’t quite fully fit. Hosted by Michael Aspel, each contestant has two minutes to get their teammates to guess their mime - otherwise it's thrown open to the other team for a bonus point! Maureen made a quip that the microphone didn't quite catch, but which had the men's team in stitches. Her rendition of What Age Expects becomes a poignant highlight, showcasing not only her vocal prowess but also her ability to convey the emotional depth of the character. I'm hoping the later series with Michael Parkinson, Lisa Goddard and Lionel Blair will also be released soon. The eight episodes that are not in the collection had appearances of three celebrities with sexual abuse offences that were investigated in Operation Yewtree.

As much as Parky's avuncular charms brings a certain cosiness to the proceedings, there are now far too many rounds that are won only because he's handing them the answers. I would guess that they always filmed 2 (or maybe even 3 episodes) on the same day so being able to film them back to back instead of having the change the cast midway though would have reduced costs. Network has compiled an astonishing set that brings together most of the episodes of Michael Aspel’s run. Incidentally, the Gascoine/Goddard/Sewell/Nedwell episode ended with the male member of the public on the panel - a fashion designer named Leslie Dean - being given The Poseidon Adventure, but giving a rather bizarre mime by pointing at himself, indicating it was two words and doing the “name” head touching thing. It's playing almost constantly in my head, which has kept me buoyant through work days and chores, until I can get my next fix.It adds a bit of sturm und drang to the proceedings, but feels a bit overdramatic sometimes when it's something she can easily do in under a minute. Secondly, the teams now alternate between getting the first go, whereas previously the women always went first.
