Cleo and Kimmy were okay, until I felt like they were not a lesbian couple, but a heterosexual couple where one of them is a guy with a girl's name. I'm not going to include this book in my big hype big lie shelf yet because I honestly didn't have many expectations for Happy Place. Henry’s novels are sparkling bestsellers, and her newest will be an immense draw for her fans and every reader looking for a stellar romance. in their review that they felt like they were third wheeling this friend group, like they were doing their own thing and as the reader you didn’t really have a reason to care, and that’s exactly how i feel! I couldn't pull away from this book and can't wait to read Beach Read (which has been on my list since last year) very soon.
Harriet goes off on her summer vacation to meet up with her best friends for a week at their 'happy place'. look, emily, my love, i’m sure i will adore this book and everything in it with all my heart just as i have all of your others. I think depending on whether you look back at that time fondly or not will depend on how much you enjoy this novel. Grief can really negatively impact a relationship and phycological issues developed in childhood can cause people to behave in ways that aren't always very clear.

They have to act like they're still together and pretend happiness and such just to not causing chaos.

I had so many good things to say about her at the start but it all got cancelled out by her stupidity. Like with all of Henry's novels, Happy Place has the trademark witty banter and humor I've come to expect (and, it turns out, I can start to predict -- I was completing punchlines for characters while listening to the audio book). Alternating between past and present, Henry crafts a tender, bittersweet story about the bonds that help define us and the inevitability of change. i am constantly overwhelmed with how she can take the most deepest inner emotions of a person and articulate it in a way that is so relatable it makes the reader feel seen.
But how can you pretend to be in love – and get away with it – in front of the people who know you best? As a Mom of two under the age of 12, a big household with my parents living with us and a couple of pets, and I work from home - I’m always partial to paperbacks so I don’t feel so bad if/when I ruin something because of a mishap.I approached Happy Place with some caution; where previous Emily Henry books shot straight to 5-star ratings, I had a couple of reader friends suggest this one was a notch below previous efforts.
